Errors, Errors, Everywhere!
Does anyone know what's been causing the site to be so unreliable these last two weeks?
I can now access the site regurarly, quickly and easily, but 1/3 times I try to access a new part of the site, I get some weird error message:
"Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /html/modules.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.sadgeezer.com Port 80"
Anybody know how to fix this?

Re:Errors, Errors, Everywhere!
Submitted by Logan on Fri, 05/08/2005 - 21:04.I have a ton of problems accessing the site/logging in/posting. It can be incredibly slow -- which is probably partiallydue to my computer.
I still wish it were possible to come up with a super-simple board -- maybe a mirror site? At some php boards I don't even need to enable my cookies. Would be nice if user sessions was set as a default for a long time.
Say with the board, I wonder if it would be possible to link it from another domain? That way it wouldn't be at the constant mercy of the rest of the site? Mind you, it's not like the board is the biggest draw anyway. But I'm sure one reason why less people use it is because it's slow and unreliable.
Now, and I know the Frey mentioned this in a thread somewhere but the loading of pages is so slow and problematic for me that I can't do a search -- a new second page post of mine (in Sidhecafe's JMS screenwriting post in the fiction forum) will not show up unless I use the show newest post first function -- it's not even registering the second page unless i do that) when going from the forum pages. WOuld like to be as specific as possible, but now I can't open any other pages at the site.
Fist it wasn't accepting my submission, and I waited for ages, checked the home page to see if my post had gone through, i tried and tried again. Eventually it took, and all my "submit posts" went through at the same time (took a long time to delete the copies, and lmost copies).
In a thread in general sci-fi discussion where I responded to MAndara, it is not showing that I posted on the main page etc. (though my post is there when you open the thread).
I've been having regular problems with the site for well over a year.
I know it's a huge job, but I wonder if a new server, or a total refit may be required. Are you keeping up with the latest upgrades?
Really appreciate all the hard work you've put into setting up and maintaining the site. It must be a real pain in the ass for the admin. The site is so complicated that a lot can go wrong.
Now I just hope this goes through without incident.

I just tried to post in the friday post, no joy. Just gave me the error message and refused to update the post on the main board.

Re:Errors, Errors, Everywhere!
Submitted by Cat on Tue, 16/08/2005 - 18:04.I've created an announcement to warn people of the problems, but had to do it manually by editing the database directly ^^;
Which means the database itself is OK (at least all the tables I edited, will have to check what other tables are updated when posting to see if these are OK), the problem may be with the scripts or with the connection between php and mysql.
Or... is there a possibility it's to do with the mail function?
Nope, mail is going out as normal.
However, I think the problem only occurs in moderated forums. I'll try removing the mods from this forum to see waht happens

Submitted by Cat on Tue, 16/08/2005 - 16:29.at the moment, the forum isn't updating the phpbb_topics table and is creating multiple entries in phpbb_posts and phpbb_posts_text.

Submitted by Cat on Tue, 16/08/2005 - 20:22.Problem defiantely applies to forum that are moderated.
Is it because moderators receive email when new posts are made? Will try subscribing to this topic to see if that has any effect.

Submitted by Cat on Tue, 16/08/2005 - 21:13.Well, I've fixed the problem temporarily by removing moerator permissions from the moderators group. Not sure which users this will affect (single forums moderators will be unaffected of course). May help to delete and re-create the group or something, but don't have much time left to fiddle at the moment.
