UK release date confirmed for Battleship starring Rihanna, plus new teaser poster
UNIVERSAL'S sci-fi adaptation of the naval board game Battleship will hit cinemas in the UK on April 11, 2012, the studio has confirmed.
The film came second only to The Avengers in the Twitter buzz generated by its trailer shown during the Super Bowl.
A new teaser poster has been unveiled along with a set of stills from the film, which sees mankind encounter an alien race called The Regents who want to build a power source in Earth's oceans.
Among those caught in the ensuing conflict in Peter Berg's action-adventure flick are pop star Rihanna making her acting debut as Petty Officer Raikes, a weapons specialist on board the USS John Paul Jones.
Taylor Kitsch - who appeared as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine - plays Lt Alex Hopper and model Brooklyn Decker is his fiancée Sam Shane, a physical therapist.
Liam Neeson plays Admiral Shane, who is Sam's father, and Alexander Skarsgard is Hopper's elder brother Stone Hopper, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson.

Stunning artwork, new TV spots and featurettes for Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace in 3D
THIS WEEKEND sees a classic sci-fi saga travel to a new dimension when Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace returns to UK cinemas, this time in 3D.
This is the first film in the series to be in presented in 3D and, to promote the release, Twentieth Century Fox has sent over five pieces of stunning cover artwork (one image is above, the others are below) along with a new set of TV spots and featurettes. A series of tie-in comics and magazines are also available.
The duel with Darth Maul, the nail-biting Tatooine Podrace, the first meeting of R2-D2 and C-3PO and the introduction of the tragic hero Anakin Skywalker are all back on our screens, this time in 3D.
Directed by George Lucas, the film stars Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and Jake Lloyd.
